Youth Justice Unit

Overview

The Youth Justice Division has been established to handle delinquent charges filed against minors under eighteen (18) years of age. Its primary objective is to identify and address the underlying causes of juvenile delinquency. The Division aims to provide support, treatment, and opportunities for rehabilitation to these youths, with a long-term goal of ending the "school-to-prison pipeline" phenomenon.

Collaborating with the Department of Juvenile Services, multiple community partners, diversion programs, and Teen Court, the Youth Justice Division endeavors to offer the youth alternatives to detention and probation. This approach aims to mitigate the negative repercussions of contact with the judicial system.

To accomplish this mission, the Youth Justice Division has a team of dedicated personnel, including six (6) attorneys, one (1) victim witness coordinator, one (1) diversion coordinator, and four (4) administrative staff.
