THREE SUSPECTS INDICTED FOR THE MURDER OF EIGHT-YEAR-OLD PEYTON EVANS

UPPER MARLBORO, MD (September 25, 2021) – Yesterday a Prince George’s County Grand Jury indicted Desmond Nkwocha (age 21), Mark Nkwocha (age 23) and George Shamman (age 23) for the murder of eight-year-old Peyton Evans on August 24, 2021.


On Tuesday, August 24, 2021, police officers responded to the report of a shooting at 1700 Brightseat Road in Landover, Maryland. Upon arrival, they discovered an eight-year-old male child, Peyton Evans, inside an apartment, suffering from a gunshot wound. Evans was transported to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. where he was pronounced dead.


During the course of the investigation police developed Desmond and Mark Nkwocha and Shamman as suspects after interviewing several witnesses and other gathered information.

In total, the grand jury returned 56 counts in three separate indictments against the three defendants.


Desmond Nkwocha and Shamman were indicted on 19 counts each and Mark Nkwocha on 18 counts to include murder, use of a firearm during a violent crime, attempted murder, first degree assault, conspiracy and related charges.


“The death and murder of this eight-year-old child is devastating and is being taken very seriously in my office. I am making it my personal mission to ensure that we achieve justice for the family of little ‘PJ’ Evans,” said State’s Attorney Braveboy.”


An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
