SUITLAND MAN INDICTED FOR MURDER AND CHILD ABUSE OF HIS SIX-YEAR-OLD DAUGHTER

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – A Prince George’s County grand jury has returned an indictment for murder, child abuse resulting in death and other related offenses against Immanuel Humes, a 40-year-old Suitland resident, for the death of his disabled six-year-old daughter.

On May 10, 2020, Prince George’s County Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the Humes’ residence where they discovered six-year-old Abigail Humes unresponsive and lying on the floor. Abigail was transported to Children’s National Emergency Department at United Medical Center where she was subsequently pronounced dead.

During the course of the investigation it was discovered that Immanuel Humes was home with three of his other children at the time of the 911 call. The investigation also revealed that Humes physically abused Abigail on a regular basis. An autopsy found that prior to her death Abigail had recently sustained broken ribs and additional internal trauma. The autopsy ruled Abigail’s death a homicide.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
