Silver Spring Man Found Guilty of Second Degree Rape

UPPER MARLBORO, MD (August 19, 2021) – After a seven-day trial, a Prince George’s County jury returned a guilty verdict for second degree rape, third degree sexual offense, and related charges against 26-year-old Javon Gross, of Silver Spring. He is facing a potential maximum sentence of 20 years for his crimes and is scheduled to be sentenced on December 3, 2021.

On January 23, 2020, the victim in this case was hanging out with the Gross, her ex-boyfriend, when she received a text message from another male. Gross became upset and began going through the victim’s phone. He then began punching her on her body, drove her near a wood line area and demanded that she get out of his vehicle. In fear for her life, she refused, and Gross strangled her until she was unconscious.

When the victim regained consciousness, she was in the defendant’s bedroom, in his aunt’s home off Addison Road in Capitol Heights. Gross continued to assault her physically and then raped her. The victim received both a sexual assault forensic examination and a strangulation examination, which allowed for the collection of valuable evidence that contributed to this conviction.

“Physical and sexual abuse will not be tolerated by my office,” said State’s Attorney Braveboy. “I would like to thank my team for the skillful and hard work put into securing justice for our victim. It is my prayer that our victim can move forward knowing that her attacker is being held accountable and can begin the healing process.”
