UPPER MARLBORO, MD – Today, a Prince George’s County grand jury returned separate indictments against Andre Smith, age 45, and Steven Warren, age 27, on 38 charges including attempted first and second degree murder for an incident that occurred in Landover, Maryland.

On August 23, 2020, police communications received a call from a victim of a home invasion and armed robbery. According to police, as officers arrived on scene, they encountered Smith and Warren leaving the residence. The men allegedly displayed firearms and opened fire at the responding officers. Three officers were shot and injured.

“This is a horrible incident. I pray that the police officers who were shot will have a full and speedy recovery,” said Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha Braveboy. “As state’s attorney, I am responsible for the safety and security for not only the residents of Prince George’s County, but also our law enforcement officers. Officers put their lives on the line for this community everyday so my office takes this case seriously and we will diligently pursue justice for all of those involved.”

The 38-count indictments charge both defendants with the following: five counts of attempted first degree murder; five counts of attempted second degree murder; seven counts of first degree assault; two counts of second degree assault; seven counts of use of a firearm in a crime of violence; five counts of reckless endangerment; one count of home invasion; two counts of armed robbery; two counts of false imprisonment; one count of conspiracy and one count of possession of firearm with felony conviction.

If convicted on all charges, Smith and Warren face up to 5 life sentences without the possibility of parole plus 245 years.

An indictment contains allegations that a defendant has committed a crime. Every defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
